You’ve heard about the ketogenic diet on television, in magazines, and from friends who have reaped the benefits of it. By the looks of it, we finally have a diet that has cracked the weight loss code.
First of all, what the heck is the ketogenic diet? Without getting too technical, the ketogenic or the “keto” diet is a high-fat, high-protein, low-carb diet. The reason it’s called the ketogenic diet is because after eating like this, your body will enter a state called ketosis where your body will start making ketones to use in place of the missing carbs.
What you’re probably wondering is why so many people swear by this diet and how did it crack the code?
Fat Burning
People often see the results of this diet pretty quickly. The reason is because when your body goes into ketosis, it starts burning fat because there are no carbs to burn. Also, people often lose water weight. When you eat carbs, your body has to retain fluids in order to store those carbs. Without the carbs, your body doesn’t need to hang on to the extra water.
Curbs Cravings
It’s no secret that fat makes you feel full. One reason why this diet is so successful is because you end up eating less food overall– you’ll feel fuller for longer throughout the day. Add that to the fact that your body uses more energy burning protein and fats than it does carbs, and there you go! Effortless extra calories burned!
The Simplicity
This diet is pretty darn simple. Without any complex rules, everyone can follow it. No sugar, no bread, no pasta, and the carbs you do eat should be from leafy greens. But hey! That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy life, because let’s face it, fat is delicious.
You can still eat your cheese, your bacon, and delicious snacks like Marigold Bars.
Because you’re not depriving yourself of all the good food in life, this diet isn’t too hard to stick to.
So if you’re ready to start losing weight, and you want to try a diet that actually works, keto might be just what you’re looking for!
Eat them with a fork instead. Too many carbs in the pita bread.
Great advice. If you feel the need to wrap, romaine or bibb lettuce works, as well as jicama or coconut wraps.
I used to weigh 321 pounds 2 years ago. Now I weigh 150. I lost it all without hunger on an optimal protein Keto diet and early time-restricted feeding, a form of intermittent fasting. I have really enjoyed the low carb marigold bars as special treats on this journey.
Big props to you, Sharon! I know that took a lot of discipline, dedication, and re-learning how to eat! You are an inspiration
Not sure what all this diet entails? I like putting my cheese or eggs in a pita pocket!
